Communities flourish when local businesses and organizations have the infrastructure and resources to create memorable experiences for visitors and residents. The Government of Canada is investing to upgrade the Central New Brunswick Woodmen’s Museum, a historical tourism site in Boiestown.

Today, the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced an investment of $92,450 through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) for improvements to the museum.

The Honourable Réjean Savoie, Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation (RDC) also announced a provincial contribution of $115,563.

The project will support a number of upgrades including drain tile and culvert replacement, eavestrough installation, and parking lot improvements. This will ensure the museum and community centre can continue to welcome visitors safely and comfortably.

With projects like this one, the Government of Canada is helping drive Atlantic Canada’s momentum by supporting strong, vibrant communities, and setting the stage for a resilient, sustainable future.

Quotes

“The forestry industry helped build New Brunswick, and the Woodmen’s Museum plays a vital role in preserving this chapter of the province’s heritage. These improvements mean the museum will be able to preserve this history for the next generation, drive local tourism, and help rural communities thrive and flourish.”

“The Woodmen’s Museum tells the story of our logging industry, which is an important part of the province’s history and an important part of our community,” said Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin MLA Mike Dawson. “Our government is pleased to support upgrades that will ensure that the museum remains a key tourism attraction for years to come.”

“Our museum reflects the deep roots of local history and its enduring traditions. Beyond its artifacts, it is the rich narratives they unfold and the lessons they share that truly matter. As a rural museum, securing adequate funding is a continuous challenge, particularly as we face an overwhelming need for extensive infrastructure repairs. Support from programs such as ACOA and RDC has been instrumental in upholding our mission: emphasizing local heritage, New Brunswick’s lumbering history, and our deep-rooted connection to nature through education. By investing in our museum today, we aim to ensure that its narratives and lessons resonate with future generations.”
