Atlantic Canada is home to entrepreneurs who are advancing cutting-edge technologies that are making waves on the world stage. The Government of Canada is investing to help Fredericton company SmartSkin Technologies Inc., grow and reach new global markets.

Today, Jenica Atwin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous Services, and Member of Parliament for Fredericton, announced a repayable contribution of $999,750 through ACOA’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program for SmartSkin Technologies Inc.  The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This investment is helping the company with marketing activities including website enhancements, a customer training portal, digital content creation, trade shows and advertising, as well as the hiring of a marketing manager.  The support will allow SmartSkin to launch new products and accelerate its growth in international markets.

This project is another example of how the Government of Canada is contributing to Atlantic Canada’s momentum by strengthening our communities, creating new opportunities, and setting the stage for a strong, sustainable future.

Quotes

"Entrepreneurs are vital to Atlantic Canada’s economy and the communities where they live and work. We are committed to investing in companies like SmartSkin Technologies as they push the boundaries to expand globally, create jobs and strengthen our economy.”

The Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

“The Fredericton and surrounding region are home to many successful high-tech companies that contribute to an international reputation for innovation excellence.  I am so proud of SmartSkin Technologies, a home-grown company that is exploring new products and markets, attracting talent, and contributing to strengthening our economy by ensuring that it works for everyone.”

Jenica Atwin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous Services, and Member of Parliament for Fredericton

“In addition to SmartSkin’s positive contribution to the local economy, its technology has had an internationally significant impact. On one example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, SmartSkin helped one of the largest vaccine makers solve a serious issue, which happened to be impacting vaccine supply at the time.  ACOA has long been a strong SmartSkin supporter, and we are delighted that this funding will accelerate the company’s impact and growth here in our home region and in our global markets.”
