Backgrounder: Growing tourism opportunities in Western Newfoundland
Backgrounder
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is investing $624,159 in several tourism and community-related projects on Newfoundland and Labrador’s west coast. The projects aim to enhance and improve infrastructure and experiences so visitors can further enjoy the area’s rugged and beautiful landscape.

Town of Humber Arm South | Construct two pump tracks and a beach volleyball court to enhance the community’s recreation infrastructure and provide a fun and safe outdoor space for youth and residents that will support community revitalization. | $125,142 non-repayable |
Corner Brook Stream Development Corporation | Upgrade an urban community trail system to improve accessibility (such as greater access with wheelchairs, strollers and other mobility devices) to remove barriers for those with mobility challenges. | $105,981 non-repayable |
Gros Morne Co-operating Association | Construct six kilometres of multi-use trail that can be used during all four seasons. The trail will also connect local residents and businesses while providing easy access to recreational areas with high-value experiences. | $93,750 non-repayable |
Town of Cow Head | Enhance Cow Head's downtown core through the installation of an accessible welcome hub directly benefiting persons with disabilities. This space will also act as a community gathering space and provide information on accessible attractions and other tourist destinations in the area to the benefit of tourists and residents presented in both official languages. | $92,986 non-repayable |
Western NL DMO Inc. (Go Western) |
A primary activity for this initiative is the development of partnerships and collecting activity content and marketing for marketing on province's marketing website. This initiative will assist tourism operators and not-for-profit experiences. Group training and mentoring and one-to-one mentoring with operators in winter tourism experience provision will be available. |
