March 13, 2025 · Glace Bay, Nova Scotia · Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
High-quality recreational spaces enrich residents’ lives and open doors for hosting sporting events, boosting local tourism. The Government of Canada is investing in upgrades to a beloved ballfield in Glace Bay, ensuring the field remains a vibrant hub for recreation and helping Cape Breton strengthen its reputation as a popular location for event tourism.
Today, Mike Kelloway, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and to the Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA and Member of Parliament for Cape Breton-Canso, announced an intention to invest (pending contract signatures) a non-repayable contribution of $250,000 to the Cape Breton Regional Municipality for the Cameron Bowl ballfield. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.
With this investment, the Municipality will install a new drainage system, artificial turf infield, a pitcher’s mound and bases. The dugouts will be renovated, and topsoil will be replaced and seeded. These improvements will ensure the field remains a vital space for local Little League games, and that it meets the required standards to host the 2026 Canadian Little League Championship, with potential for similar events in the future.
Today’s announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to fostering vibrant communities, supporting local economies, and creating long-term benefits for residents and visitors.
