Nova Scotia
- Officers found 4.8 kg of suspected heroin in the lining of a traveller’s suitcase at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport on February 14, 2016. The traveller and drugs were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Newfoundland and Labrador
- The seizure of a collection of unusual weapons in the Corner Brook area in 2013 resulted in guilty pleas on February 5, 2016 for charges under the Customs Act, and the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drug and Substance Act. The CBSA and Royal Newfoundland Constabulary discovered that an individual had been importing prohibited weapons over the Internet. In April 2013, CBSA Criminal Investigations seized a crossbow pistol (34 x 17-cm arrows), brass knuckles, 12 shuriken “ninja stars”, a brass knuckle/knife combo (28-cm blade), a replica handgun, various electronic devices and approximately 15 g of marijuana. A sentencing date has been set for September 23, 2016.
New Brunswick
- Investigations over the past several months have resulted in charges against Japanese-owned company Ichiboshi, LPC Ltd., based in Caraquet, New Brunswick, under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for illegally employing foreign nationals. The next court date is set for May 28, 2016.
