Fifteen bricks of suspected cocaine seized at the Kingsgate port of entry

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is announcing the seizure of approximately 15 kilograms of suspected cocaine.

 

On July 21, 2016, a commercial driver travelling from the United States was seeking entry to Canada at the Kingsgate port of entry (POE). During the commercial vehicle examination, border services officers (BSOs) discovered numerous bricks of a white, powdered substance secreted within a natural void between pallets of cargo. After performing a field test, the suspected cocaine was seized.

 

The driver was arrested and turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) along with the drugs.

 

 

Quick Facts

• Last year, BSOs at the Kingsgate POE processed over 300,000 travellers.
• From 2011 to 2015, there were over 150 illegal narcotic seizures at the Kingsgate POE.
• The CBSA is responsible for enforcing over 90 Acts of legislation, including the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Any contravention against said Act may lead to prosecution in a court of law.
