Steroid smuggling leads to charges

Two men will appear in the Kentville Provincial Court today on charges resulting from a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) investigation into the smuggling and distribution of anabolic steroids.

 

Rob Volans and Mike Mahaney have been charged with the smuggling and distribution of anabolic steroids under the Customs Act and trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Mahaney has also been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for production of anabolic steroids.

 

The investigation began when 500 grams of the anabolic steroid “Turinabol” or “T-bol” was seized in a parcel from China in December 2015, at the CBSA International Mail Processing Centre in Vancouver. The CBSA Criminal Investigations Unit in Halifax led the investigation with assistance from the Kentville Police Service and New Minas Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
