Cornwall port runner faces multiple charges

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that a woman is facing multiple charges after failing to comply with a request for a secondary examination at the Cornwall port of entry.

 

On October 5, 2016, Justine Jacobs, 31, of Akwesasne, was referred for a secondary examination at the Cornwall port of entry.

 

Instead of complying with the request, Jacobs fled the port of entry and did not report for the secondary examination driving south towards Cornwall Island at a high rate of speed. The CBSA alerted the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, who captured Jacobs and transported her and her vehicle back to the port of entry. Upon examination of the vehicle, CBSA officers found several bags of undeclared fine cut tobacco weighing a total of 90.7 kilos in the trunk.

 

On October 13, 2016, Jacobs was charged with hindering an officer and Evading compliance contrary to sections 153.1 and 153(c) under the Customs Act.

 

She was released on a promise to appear in court on November 8, 2016.
