Using X-rays to find a handgun and persistence to stop the smuggling of an aircraft

In October the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) remained vigilant with continued efforts resulting in the seizure of weapons at the borders in the Southern Ontario Region. Additionally, the Agency seized a plane, stopped the importation of child pornography, and removed an individual who attempted to enter Canada illegally for a sixth time.

On October 12, a Woodstock resident flew into the Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport and contacted the CBSA telephone reporting centre. Border services officers attended to clear the plane and the subject. Upon examination of the plane, it was discovered that the subject had failed to declare he had purchased and continued to give inaccurate information stating that it had been purchased in Canada. Documentation showed it had just been purchased in the United States for US$110,000.00. The plane was seized for inaccurate information and the terms of release was set at CAN$58,251. Furthermore, the owner was charged under the Customs Act with non-report and attempting to evade the payment of taxes. He was issued a promise appear in court for November 23.
