The CBSA is modifying hours of service at Stanstead Route 143 border crossing
News release
July 30, 2024 Ottawa, Ontario Canada Border Services Agency
Today, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that, effective August 1, 2024, the hours of service at the Stanstead Route 143 border crossing will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
The new service hours align with the hours of operation at the corresponding U.S. port of entry at Derby Line Route 5. In general, aligning hours of service between Canadian and U.S. ports of entry enhances the security of the border and allows for better coordination in returning inadmissible travellers to the other country
This change will also allow the Agency to optimize the use of its resources in the Stanstead area based on operational needs and priorities and without compromising border security.
Travellers looking to enter Canada by land in the Stanstead area have access to three ports of entry within a five-kilometre radius: Stanstead Route 143, Stanstead Autoroute 55 and Stanstead Beebe. The ports of entry at Stanstead Autoroute 55 (about 1 km away) and Stanstead Beebe (about 3 km away), are both open 24 hours/ 7 days a week.
Quick facts
-
This decision was made based on a comprehensive review and analysis of data collected related to ports of entry which clearly identified operational pressures, peak periods, and services required. Even during the peak summer months, between 8 pm and 8 am, an average of less than one vehicle crosses at Stanstead Route 143 each hour.
