Amira Elghawaby: 8 years ago on January 29, 6 Canadian Muslims were deliberately murdered in a hate-motivated attack.

Simply because they were Muslim.

We pause to remember them, honor the survivors, and continue our commitment to raising awareness about Islamophobia.

On this National Day of Remembrance, Canadians across the country wear a green felt square as an act of solidarity. This green square represents the prayer carpet of the Quebec City Mosque — a place of reflection and peace; now a powerful symbol of remembrance and a call to action.

[A close-up is made on Amira Elghawaby taking one of those squares and pinning it on her blazer ending with her looking at the camera.]

This January 29th let’s take a stand against Islamophobia and help build a Canada where every person can live in safety, dignity, and peace.
