• Thursday, June 29 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

  Administrative arrival to Canada

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall arrive in Iqaluit, Nunavut for the 2017 Royal Tour to Canada. This is the 18^th tour to Canada for The Prince of Wales and the 4^th for The Duchess of Cornwall.

  They are greeted by dignitaries including His Excellency The Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada; the Honourable Nellie Kusugak, Commissioner of Nunavut and, the Honourable Peter Taptuna, Premier of Nunavut.

  Official Welcome Ceremony to Canada at the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut

  Their Royal Highnesses are officially welcomed to Canada and Nunavut.

  The welcome features military honours including the breaking of His Royal Highness’s Canadian Standard, an inspection of a Quarter Guard of Canadian Rangers and elements of a traditional Inuit welcome. Dignitaries and The Prince of Wales address Canadians. Their Royal Highnesses sign the Government of Canada Golden Book and the Nunavut Guestbook.

  His Royal Highness participates in a Language Preservation Event in the Legislative Chamber.

  The Prince of Wales meets with key groups working on the preservation, maintenance and promotion of the Inuit language.

  These groups include staff and students of Pirurvik "a place of growth" which is a unique, non-government centre of learning dedicated to Inuit language, culture and well-being. The Prince of Wales receives a brief explanation of the qulliq, followed by a brief lesson in Inuktitut.

  The Prince of Wales meets with representatives of Prince’s Charities Canada working to preserve indigenous languages such as Welsh, Gaelic and Maori. In 2016, a partnership between Prince's Charities Canada and the Atausiq Inuktuk Titirausiq (AIT), which saw a group of Inuit travel to The Prince's home in Wales to discuss efforts to standardize the writing system for Welsh and Inuktitut.

  His Royal Highness learns more about the Inuit Uqausinginnik Taiguusiliuqtiit (Inuit Language Authority), and engages with members of SayITFirst and One Laptop per Child, where he views a translation of a children’s book inspired by The Old Man of Lochnagar – authored by The Prince of Wales – into Inukitut.

  Her Royal Highness participates in a Women and Wellness Event

  The Duchess of Cornwall meets with organizations dedicated to improving the health and life of women in the North. The event demonstrates the contributions of local groups to encourage and promote an improved quality of life in Iqaluit and throughout the territory.

  The organizations include The Qayuqtuvik Food Centre, which offers a free hot meal program to Iqalummiut (resdents of Iqaluit); The Quality of Life Secretariat, the Government of Nunavut’s lead on development of suicide prevention, intervention and postvention strategies and action plans; The Tukisigiarvik Centre which includes a team of Inuit elders to provide support and assistance to individuals and families with health, healing, education and employment; the Food Centre Inclusion Café and the Tattoo Revitalization Project

  Research Institute Environmental Event

  The Prince of Wales discusses  the work and research initiatives taking place in Nunavut on the environment and climate change, and meets students and researchers engaged in this work.

  His Royal Highness visits the Nunavut Research Institute, where he learns about various environmental projects undertaken in the North including measuring ice using the qamutik or traditional sled, research on artic insects and projects working on water.

  The Prince of Wales visits the solar-powered community greenhouse, where community members grow their own produce.

  Community Feast at Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall join a community celebration hosted by the Honourable Peter Taptuna, Premier of Nunavut, where they will enjoy local artists and performances, and explore Nunavut’s unique landscape, terrain and flora.

  Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park features spectacular views, archaeological sites that date back to the Thule and hosts a variety of rare plants, birds and wildlife.

  Their Royal Highnesses visit the Tukisigiarvik Inuit Centre’s traditional Inuit village, stop to learn about medicinal plants from an Elder, and view carving and craft demonstrations. After a speech by Premier Taptuna, Their Royal Highnesses enjoy performances by Tumikuluit Saipaaqivik (Little Footprints) and join Elders for tea and bannock.

  Administrative arrival in Canadian Forces Base Trenton

  In Trenton, Their Royal Highnesses participate in events and activities that support and recognize individuals and families in the Canadian Armed Forces.

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are welcomed at 8 Wing-Canadian Forces Base Trenton.

  Walk through hangar displays and meet with Royal Canadian Air Force members

  Their Royal Highnesses meet military personnel at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, who specialize in airlift and search and rescue, and have been keeping Canadians safe at home and abroad for over 87 years.

  Their Royal Highnesses engage with personnel responsible for the CC-130 Hercules Aircraft and the MPN-25 Radar, Mobile VFR (Visual Flight Rule) and Mobile IFR (Instrument Flight Rules). These navigational aids provide support during exercises and operation and are readily deployable in a short amount of time by land, sea and air.

  Events at the Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre

  The Prince of Wales meets with military personnel involved in Search and Rescue (SAR)

  The Prince of Wales attends SAR demonstrations, meets with SAR members and their families, and learns about the program’s services.

  The Duchess of Cornwall meets with The Queen’s Own Rifles, an Army Reserve regiment based in downtown Toronto and Scarborough. Founded in April 26 1860, it is the oldest continuously serving infantry regiment in Canada. The Duchess of Cornwall was made Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment in 2014 and will meet with families and members of the reserve unit.

  The Prince of Wales meets beneficiaries and supporters of the Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur - An initiative of Prince's Charities Canada which provides transitioning military personnel and veterans with the education, training and resources they need to start a business.

  His Royal Highness meets with veterans who are now business owners and have been supported by this program.

  Honouring the fallen at the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall honour those Canadians who paid the ultimate sacrifice by laying a wreath and a floral spray at the memorial.

  The Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial, invites Canadians to contemplate the personal sacrifice of war. Located adjacent to CFB Trenton on the beautiful Bay of Quinte, this tribute is near where Canadian repatriation ceremonies are held. 

  It is also located at the beginning of the Highway of Heroes, the route along Highway 401 where a member of Canada’s Armed Forces who has fallen in combat takes his or her final journey from CFB Trenton to the Coroner’s Office in Toronto. Canadians gather in the thousands on the highway overpasses to pay tribute to those killed in action and demonstrate respect for the families.

  Visit Wellington Farmer’s Market in Prince Edward County

  Their Royal Highnesses highlight the work being done to develop and promote the “farm to table” and “shop locally” movement in Prince Edward County. Such activities have increased tourism and economic development in the region and have allowed the County to become a top culinary and wine destination in recent years.

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visit the booths, stopping to chat with vendors and artisans at the Wellington Farmer’s Market

  Visit Norman Hardie Winery and meet local vintners and farmers

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visit Norman Hardie Winery, an example of how locally made, small batch producers and farmers can be successful in a local, national and international economy.

  Their Royal Highness visit various stations offering locally sourced food and wine prepared by celebrity chefs, local farmers and producers who operate in the area.

  Visit of the new Canadian History Hall at the Canadian Museum of History, Gatineau, Quebec

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall celebrate the sesquicentennial with Canadians at the Canadian Museum of History and mark the opening of the new Canadian History Hall.

  Their Royal Highnesses participate in an opening ceremony for the Canadian History Hall. They then tour the hall, meet with youth from diverse backgrounds to hear their perspectives of what Canada means for them today, engage with young women affecting change in their community, and hear the stories of new Canadians and those working to support them.

  Inspection of the Guard

  At the site of Reconciliation, The Peacekeeping Monument, in Ottawa, His Royal Highness will participate in an inspection of the guard. A 21-gun salute is fired.

  Canada Day Celebrations on Parliament Hill

  Their Royal Highnesses join Canadians as they celebrate the 150^th anniversary of Confederation. The Canada Day show on Parliament Hill showcases Canada’s artistic talent and highlights the cultural vitality of our communities.

  Re-opening of the newly renovated National Arts Centre

  His Royal Highness participates in the opening of the newly renovated National Arts Centre which includes a new glass atrium and entrance. The ceremony profiles Canada’s only national, bilingual, multi-disciplinary performing arts Centre in the country.

  Visit to Shopify

  The Prince of Wales profiles Canada’s leading role in developing the technology of the future by visiting Shopify, an e-commerce company.

  Shopify, a local success story, began above an Ottawa coffee shop and evolved into a company generating $15.4 billion in revenue. The company has close to 2,000 employees, with five offices in Canada and one in San Francisco. Currently more than 400,000 online merchants in over 175 countries use Shopify’s software platforms.

  His Royal Highness views the company’s e-commerce projects, engages with Shopify employees, new entrepreneurs and merchants and learns about the company’s unique work environment and education program.

  Unveiling of The Queen’s Entrance at Rideau Hall

  Their Royal Highnesses celebrate the Sapphire Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen, and celebrate Canada 150 at Rideau Hall, the home of Canada’s Governor General and all Canadians.

  The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall inaugurate The Queen’s Entrance at Rideau Hall. After the inauguration, Their Royal Highnesses participate in a reception that brings 150 outstanding Canadians who are connected to Their Royal Highnesses through their charities and patronages or who reflect the development of our country for the past 150 years.

  Their Royal Highnesses are bid farewell by dignitaries. They are honoured with a Departure Guard.
