Competition Bureau invites feedback on its proposal to increase the filing fee for merger reviews

News Release

October 20, 2017 – OTTAWA, ON – Competition Bureau

Interested parties are invited to provide comments on the Competition Bureau’s proposal to increase the filing fee for merger reviews.

The merger filing fee has remained unchanged since 2003. The Bureau is proposing an increase to the fee in 2018 to ensure that it has adequate resources to fulfill its merger review mandate and continue to meet its service standards.

The Competition Act requires that companies notify the Bureau if proposed mergers, acquisitions and other transactions meet certain thresholds. The Bureau reviews these notifiable transactions to determine if they are likely to substantially prevent or lessen competition. Companies filing a merger notification, or requesting an Advance Ruling Certificate, pay a filing fee.

The Bureau’s proposal outlines the rationale, costing and impact analysis for the proposed fee.

Anyone wishing to comment on the proposal is invited to submit input by November 20, 2017 by email or mail, to:
