Departmental Spending Trend Graph

This bar graph shows the Department of Finance Canada’s total actual and planned spending, including sunset programs, from 2011–12 to 2016–17. Actual spending for 2011–12 and 2012–13 shows budgetary and non-budgetary expenditures, whereas forecast and planned spending for 2013–14 to 2016–17 shows only budgetary expenditures.

In 2011–12, total actual spending was $148.2 billion, with $84.8 billion in budgetary spending and $63.4 billion in non-budgetary spending for direct loan to Crown corporations.

In 2012–13, total actual spending was $149.1 billion, with $83.9 billion in budgetary spending and $65.2 billion in non-budgetary spending for direct loan to Crown corporations.

In 2013–14, total forecast spending is $86.9 billion.

Total planned spending, including sunset programs, goes from $87.6 billion in 2014–15, to $91.1 billion in 2015–16, and to $96.2 billion in 2016–17.

On average, sunset programs account for less than 1 per cent of total planned spending.
