Departmental Spending Trend Graph

This bar graph shows the Department of Finance Canada's total actual and planned expenditures, including statutory, voted and sunset program spending, from 2015-16 to 2020-21.

In 2015–16, statutory spending was $86.9 billion, voted spending was $86 million, and spending for sunset programs was $30 million. Total spending was $87 billion.

In 2016–17, statutory spending was $88.3 billion, voted spending was $88 million, and spending for sunset programs was $19 million. Total spending was $88.4 billion.

In 2017–18, statutory spending was $90.2 billion, voted spending was $95 million, and spending for sunset programs was $36 million. Total spending was $90.3 billion.

In 2018–19, statutory spending of $94.0 billion, voted spending of $91 million, and spending for sunset programs of $4 million are planned. Total planned spending is $94.0 billion.

In 2019–20, statutory spending of $98.7 billion and voted spending of $90 million, and spending for sunset programs of $1 million are planned. Total planned spending is $98.8 billion.

In 2020–21, statutory spending of $103.2 billion and voted spending of $90 million, and spending for sunset programs of $1 million are planned. Total planned spending is $103.3 billion.
