April 25, 2017 – Beijing, China – Department of Finance Canada

The Government of Canada is committed to strengthening its relationship with China in a manner that encourages trade, promotes investment, and deepens mutual understanding of each country's economy with the goal of supporting growth and prosperity.

Minister of Finance Bill Morneau and Minister of International Trade François-Philippe Champagne are in Beijing today to co-chair the launch of the Canada-China Economic and Financial Strategic Dialogue with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang.

This high-level Dialogue was announced following official visits of the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, to China and of His Excellency Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, to Canada.

Today's Dialogue meeting will allow both countries to identify the long-term strategic objectives that will help move the economic and financial partnership to the next level. This first meeting will also serve as an opportunity to highlight priorities and areas of shared interest, including those related to trade and investment, as well as policy collaboration.

In addition to the launch of the Dialogue, Ministers Morneau and Champagne are in China to meet with government and business leaders to discuss ways to expand Canada's bilateral relationship with China, and to help forge connections between Canadian and Chinese business communities.
