October 11, 2018 – Bali, Indonesia – Department of Finance Canada

Thanks to the hard work of Canadians, Canada is home to a strong and growing economy, with the benefits of that growth benefitting more and more people.

By making investments that lead to long-term growth, and by working together with global partners in the G20, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank Group, the Government of Canada continues its efforts to deliver economic growth that works for everyone – in Canada, and around the world.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau met with his G20 counterparts in Bali, Indonesia, today to advance progress on a shared goal: ensuring that more people benefit from the growth countries create together. Minister Morneau will also participate in the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group, where he will underscore Canada's progress on building a strong middle class and its efforts to achieve gender equality at home and abroad. The Minister will also discuss the importance of fair and open trade.

The Minister also highlighted Canada's support for Indonesia in the wake of the recent devastating earthquake and tsunami. The Government of Canada is providing $1.5 million in emergency assistance to help meet the immediate needs of affected communities, through the provision of clean water, food, shelter, emergency first aid, and basic health care.
