Minister Fortier meets with Canadians in Winnipeg to discuss growing the middle class

A strong economy starts with a strong middle class and a responsible fiscal plan. For the last four years, investments in people and communities, combined with the hard work of Canadians, have helped create more than a million new jobs—driving continued economic growth and creating more opportunities for people to succeed.
Today, the Honourable Mona Fortier, Minister of Middle Class Prosperity and Associate Minister of Finance, was in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to continue the Government of Canada’s consultations ahead of Budget 2020. Minister Fortier took part in a roundtable discussion at the University of Manitoba Smartpark Innovation Hub to hear from local business and community leaders and stakeholders about their priorities for Budget 2020. In the afternoon, Minister Fortier held a discussion with the Winnipeg francophone community on how the government can help grow the economy in a way that works for everyone.
This year’s consultations focus on the priorities laid out in the 2019 Speech from the Throne:
- Strengthening the middle class and growing the economy
- Fighting and preparing for climate change and protecting the environment
- Keeping Canadians safe and healthy
- Continuing the work towards reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples
Minister Fortier invites all Canadians to share their priorities on how the government can continue to invest in middle class Canadians. People can contribute their ideas by making submissions through the Your Budget website.
