October 8, 2022 - Ottawa, Canada - Department of Finance Canada
Next week, from October 11 to 14, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, will attend the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), in Washington, D.C.
These meetings are taking place at a time when people in Canada and around the world are facing global inflation and a challenging economic environment heading into 2023. This is an important opportunity for Canada to engage with likeminded partners on the path ahead and how we can continue investing in good jobs, sustained economic growth, and a global economy that works for everyone.
The Deputy Prime Minister will attend the G7 and G20 Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' Meetings, as well as meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee. The Deputy Prime Minister will also attend the Second Ukraine Ministerial Roundtable, which will be co-chaired by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and to which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will deliver opening remarks virtually.
At these meetings, discussions will focus on a range of issues affecting the Canadian and global economies, including global inflation, Russia’s war in Ukraine, disruptions to global commodity markets, climate change, further international action on the Iranian regime, and rising sovereign debt levels.
An itinerary of events will be released in advance of the meetings.
