Biographical Notes – Sean Strickland

Backgrounder

Sean Strickland is a senior construction executive with extensive experience in design-build-finance-operate and maintain and public-private partnerships delivery methods. As executive director at Canada’s Building Trades Union since 2020, he successfully negotiated project labour agreements.

He has held senior positions with Pomerleau General Contractors and the Ontario Construction Secretariat, and was a Councillor for the Regional Municipality of Waterloo from 1997 to 2022. He has broad-based expertise in labour, government, and public relations, as well as operations and finance. He has been Vice President of BuildForce Canada, and has sat as a member on many boards of directors. He is currently a board member on SKILLPLAN, Helmets to Hardhats, MEBCO, and the Turkstra Chair in Urban Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Waterloo.

Mr. Strickland is a Master Manager graduate of the Executive Management Program at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Laurier Institute, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Waterloo.
