Canada, Minister Champagne to attend the EU Finance Ministers Meeting in Denmark, deepen trade ties and security collaboration
News release
September 18, 2025
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, will participate in the Informal Meeting of European Union (EU) Economy and Finance Ministers (ECOFIN) in Copenhagen, Denmark, on September 19 and 20.
Canada’s position as the only non-European country invited to this meeting highlights the close ties between Canada and the EU, as well as the government’s efforts to strengthen and diversify trade with reliable partners.
Canada, along with the United Kingdom, Norway and Ukraine, has been invited to the meeting by the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Minister’s visit will focus on the economic effects of geopolitics, advancing reforms to boost productivity and economic resilience in Canada and EU member states, renewing collaboration with Nordic Partners to safeguard the Arctic against both new and longstanding threats, and addressing broader security concerns, including Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine and instability in the Middle East.
The Minister will also participate in a roundtable discussion on the Arctic and meet with several European partners and allies to discuss international economic challenges amid the current global uncertainty.
