Intermediate Leadership Programme award recipients

We are pleased to recognize the excellent work that had been done by candidates on the Intermediate Leadership Programme, serial 0054 from Oct. 19 to Nov. 6, 2020.

Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Jimmy Carroll Leadership Trophy

The Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Jimmy Carroll trophy is presented to one candidate from each platoon, elected by his or her peers, who has demonstrated the attributes of leadership by example, ethics and integrity.

The recipients are:

  • Warrant Officer Scott Preeper, Infantry School CFB Gagetown
  • WO Dereck Shaw, 4 Canadian Division Training Center
  • WO Ryan Bradley, Infantry School Gagetown
  • WO Jean-Frederick Roby, 1R22R

The Late CPO1 James Carroll had a 38-year career with the Royal Canadian Navy of which 23 years at sea onboard 13 ships. He was the coxswain in Her Majesty Canadian Ship PROTECTEUR. Ending his career as the Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer from 1991 to 1995.

A plaque erected in his memory that sits at the foot of the road that bears his name in the Halifax dockyard reads: “Chief Petty Officer Carroll is remembered for his ability to communicate with all ranks, his concern for the welfare of all military members, and his quiet dedication and belief in service to Country. He was a leader’s leader.”

Chief Warrant Officer Roger Boivin Comradeship Trophy

The CWO Roger Boivin trophy is presented to one candidate from each platoon, elected by his or her peers, who has exemplified the spirit of comradeship throughout the Intermediate Leadership Programme.

The recipients are:

  • WO Jonathan Hamilton, Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School
  • WO Jesse Mansfield, 1 CMBG HQ & Signal Sqn
  • Sergeant Hannah Gaultois, 1 Royal Newfoundland Regiment
  • WO David Grenon, RCAF Band Winnipeg

Chief Warrant Officer Boivin was born in Québec city, and joined the Canadian Forces (CAF) in 1972 as an Infantryman. In June 1996, he was promoted to CWO and was appointed as Regimental Sergeant Major of the 3rd Battalion R22R. That same year, he was introduced as a member of the Order of Military Merit. CWO Boivin commanded the Advanced Leadership Division at the Canadian Forces Leadership & Recruit School from 1998 to 2002, where the Senior Leader’s Course was given before the creation of the Non Commissioned Members Professional Development Center in 2003. He retired in 2006.

Canadian War Museum Prize

The Canadian War museum prize is awarded to the candidate who drafted the best essay during the distance-learning portion of the Intermediate Leadership Program.

The recipients are:

  • WO Philippe Bernier, 12e RBC Valcartier
  • WO Wade Cogswell, BIS Halifax
