February 20, 2024 - Capt Graeme Kaine, Public Affairs Officer, 39 Canadian Brigade Group

The recent joint military training mission conducted by 39 Canadian Brigade Group (39 CBG) in Vietnam proved to be highly successful.

Led by Lieutenant‑Colonel Anh Foort and Major Pav Dudek, the officers demonstrated Canadian excellence by organizing the Exercise Planning Process Course (EPPC) in partnership with Vietnam’s Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

The EPPC, facilitated by Department of National Defence (DND) Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy) Directorate of Military Training and Cooperation, brought together 35 students from nine nations to enhance their expertise in exercise planning. Running from Jan. 22 to Feb. 2, this significant event marked the beginning of collaborative training sessions between Canada and Vietnam following the ratification of a memorandum of understanding for peacekeeping training support.

The outstanding performance of LCol Foort and Maj Dudek, supported by Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) instructors from 38 CBG and 41 CBG, showcased Canadian ingenuity and commitment to the DND’s Military Training and Cooperation Programme. Their dedication and proficiency in imparting invaluable knowledge on exercise development highlighted the professionalism of the CAF.

Beyond military achievements, LCol Foort led the team in immersing themselves in Vietnam’s vibrant culture, traditions and language, enriching the mission with diverse experiences.

Maj Dudek succinctly expressed gratitude: “Cảm ơn Việt Nam! (Thank you, Vietnam!)”

As we reflect on this success, 39 CBG reiterates its commitment to fostering global partnerships and promoting gender equality in military endeavours. Each mission brings us closer to a world where diversity flourishes, ensuring opportunities for all.
