From May 24 to 26, 39 Service Battalion conducted Exercise SALISH PHOENIX 24 at the OPSEE training area in Chilliwack, B.C.

This operation aimed to reinforce tactical Combat Service Support skills and enhance Command Post (CP) leadership co‑ordination. The exercise marked the conclusion of the 2023/2024 training year, integrating lessons from previous exercises.

The exercise unfolded in three phases: planning and preparation, deployment and execution, and redeployment. Participants, equipped with their field gear, engaged in various tactical scenarios, honing their individual soldier skills and CP operations.

Key Battle Task Standards accomplished included convoy operations, harbour and hide practice, sentry duties, repair recovery requests, transport and supply requests, and delivery point requests in a defensive operation. Our cooks provided hot, remarkably tasty meals in an austere cooking environment to maintain high morale.

A notable highlight was the successful deployment and testing of 39 Canadian Brigade Group's new Starlink dish, providing high-speed internet connectivity in the field for the first time.

The meticulous planning by the Command and Operation Team ensured all training objectives were met, culminating in a comprehensive after-action review. The exercise emphasized the importance of readiness and adaptability, showcasing the battalion's commitment to excellence in both training and operational capabilities.
