Soldiers from 20th Independent Field Battery (20 Ind Fd Bty) celebrated a resounding success at the Coaldale Winter Festival Parade on Nov. 29.

Representing the Canadian Army Reserve, the unit showcased their creativity, professionalism and dedication to community engagement, earning First Place in the "Community and Not‑for‑Profit Organizations" category for the floats they entered in the parade.

The parade was a highlight of the festival, drawing families and visitors to the town of Coaldale, Alta., located just east of Lethbridge. Soldiers from 20 Ind Fd Bty meticulously prepared for the event, decorating two military vehicles—a Medium Support Vehicle System and a Milcot—with vibrant holiday lights, reindeer‑themed decorations and festive banners. The preparation phase included a team effort at Vimy Ridge Armoury in Lethbridge on Nov. 28, where soldiers worked to ensure the decorations were secure and ready for the parade.

During the parade, the soldiers escorted the vehicles along the route, engaging warmly with the public and sharing the holiday spirit. The event provided an excellent platform to foster relationships with the local community while promoting the values and service of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

“This was an incredible opportunity to connect with the community and highlight the dedication of our soldiers,” said Sergeant Matt Dallas, team lead for the event. “The recognition we received is a testament to the hard work and enthusiasm of the entire team.”

The parade also emphasized safety and operational efficiency. Troops ensured all decorations adhered to safety standards, and public interactions reflected the professionalism of the Reserves.

The event concluded with a proud moment for the unit as their efforts were recognized with the first‑place ribbon. This accomplishment not only demonstrates the unit’s commitment to excellence, but also serves as an inspiring example of how the CAF can engage meaningfully with communities during the holiday season.
