(SB) Hi there, my name is Stephen Burt. I’m the Assistant Deputy Minister for Data, Innovation and Analytics here at DND / CAF. I’m here for the 60 seconds challenge.
Let’s go.
“Describe your leadership style in one word.”
Delivery.
“Pool or beach?”
I have a pool which I love, but beach, 100 percent.
“Why is it important for the department to be a data-driven organization?”
Data is going to enable everything we want to do in the 21st century. We want to be more digital, we want to have modern military capabilities, we want to do A.I, we want to do machine learning. We need better data in order to do all of that stuff.
“ADM(DIA) just celebrated its third anniversary. What are your hopes for its five-year anniversary?”
What I want to see by five years, two more years from now is that we have live analytics in all our main decision making meetings, and I want to see us delivering better financial supply chain systems to operators across the Armed Forces.
“Do you have a hidden talent?”
Ha. So, I can whistle in both directions in and out. There you go.
“And… Name DIA’s biggest success to date.”
The implementation of the data governance framework and the data stewards that are going to help us make this real across all of our L1 organizations.
