Okay, making sure I got everything…alright.

Hi, I'm Lieutenant-Colonel Riel “Guns” Erickson. I'm the Commandant of 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School. I'm here with you today at 15 Wing Moose Jaw to do the 60 Seconds With… challenge. Alright.

“What has been the greatest challenge you faced in your career?”

Overcoming my own self-doubt.

“How do you maintain your mental health?”

Meditation, exercise and laughing as much as I can, usually at myself.

“If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?”

Play the piano. I have not learned to do that, and I've always wanted to.

“How would you propose breaking down barriers facing women in Defence and Security?”

I think those of us here just need to get out there and be seen. The more you see it, the more it becomes the norm.

“What's the best part of commanding 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School?”

Definitely the people. They're amazing to work with and I love working with the young pilots as they start their career.

“What is one thing you can't live without?”

I have two young kids, so it is absolutely coffee.

“What advice would you give to women considering a career in Defence and within the RCAF?”

Just go do it. Try it. You have no idea what you're capable of until you give it a try, so get out there.

And finally: “High-tech or low-tech?”

High-tech.
