Ashly: Hi, I’m Ashly Solberg. I’m a CAF spouse with my husband being at 1 VP out of Edmonton, and I’m here to do the 60 Second Challenge. Let’s go!
In your opinion, what are the best resources offered to military spouses and families?
They have the MFRC available at all the bases, there’s also military spouses’ groups, they have the Canadian military spouses group as well online. You can also have the Padre, there’s the unit available to you as well.
What is your happy place?
At home with my 12-year-old and my 9-month-old.
You have your own identity apart from being a CAF spouse. How do you balance that?
Having friends outside of the military community.
Who or what do you turn to when you need a good laugh?
I have my best friends that I keep in contact with, even though they are in Ontario versus Edmonton.
What is the most rewarding part about being a military spouse?
Knowing that my spouse is serving our country, and that we’re protected.
Being a military spouse can’t always be easy. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
That you have to be patient. You have to be supportive, and there’s always a community around that can help support you as well.
Good!
