PO2 Sideroff: Hi, I’m Petty Officer 2nd class Mike Sideroff, Biomedical Electronics Technologist, and I’m here to take the 60 Second challenge.
What is a Biomedical Electronics Technologist?
We maintain and repair all the medical equipment in the CAF.
What’s a typical work environment for a BE Tech?
All of our BE Tech shops are located in clinics or equipment warehouses across Canada. When we’re deployed we might be in a bit of a different environment, but typically we’re inside.
What trades can become a BE Tech?
Any trade can apply to be a BE Tech, but your application must be accompanied by an acceptance letter from an accredited school from Canada.
What are the top three reasons to consider the BE Tech trade?
First off is travel. We’ve got just enough routine travel to break up the normal routine. Second, I would say, is the trade size. We’re such a small trade, I literally know everybody in it. And third would be training. The majority of our training is actually civilian-run, not through the military.
What’s the best place you’ve travelled with the CAF?
I got to go to Ukraine a couple of years ago, and the translator that was on site was a local citizen and gave us a really nice tour of the city of Lviv.
And that’s the 60 Second challenge.
