Advice for a CAF member participating in Ex MAPLE RESOLVE for the first time?

Make sure you follow the kit list, pack more than you think you’d need, and bring a nice pillow with you.

My name is Trooper Vandermale, I’m a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons here at Garrison Petawawa, and this is the 60 Second Challenge.

What does leadership mean to you?

Leadership means having a strong and decisive voice in an environment of chaos.

What kind of skills do CAF members gain by participating in Ex MAPLE RESOLVE?

CAF members get to practice the skills that they learn on a day-to-day basis, however, it will be done with other units in a cohesive way.

What makes MAPLE RESOLVE unique from other exercises?

MAPLE RESOLVE is a brigade-level exercise in which multiple units and regiments participate together for one, cohesive goal.

What is the most rewarding part about participating in Ex MAPLE RESOLVE?

The most rewarding part will be being able to participate in an exercise that is bigger than any other exercise you’ve ever done.

How long have you been in the CAF?

I’ve been a member for three years.

What would you tell someone who is interested in joining the CAF?

I’d tell them to do their research, make sure they know what they’re getting themselves into, and to have fun with it.
