My name is Sergeant Alexandre Bouchard and I’m the section commander for the patrol pathfinder course.
The main role of a patrol pathfinder is to master the art of patrolling.
That primarily means inserting and extracting soldiers and being able to show flexibility when we conduct assaults across the whole terrain in order to bypass enemy lines and attack or achieve any other objective.
The candidates have received all of their instruction. We’re now at the stage where we implement what they’ve been taught for the evaluation phase and ensure that they’ve properly assimilated the information.
That way, candidates can go on to become patrol pathfinder section commanders.
Personally, I find that there’s added value in taking a course and then teaching it afterwards. It’s two completely different sides of things.
When you teach a course, you complement the instruction that you’ve received through the preparations that you need to do to be able to adequately teach it to candidates.
I believe that, for every course we take, we should have to teach it afterwards.
With the fatigue and the weight of the bag, it’s a lot to have on your shoulders at a certain point.
It’s a mind game. You end up questioning yourself, but you have to keep your focus on the objective, on the goal.
And no matter how I feel or how much I’m hurting, it’s always mission before self.
