Hey kids!
I'm Chief Warrant Officer Jeremy Buckingham.
I work for Canada's military—which we call the Canadian Armed Forces.
I'm so excited to talk to you about what the military does, and why Remembrance Day is so important.
Our job in the Canadian Armed Forces is to keep people safe—here in Canada and all around the world.
[15 second pause for transition]
Sometimes that means helping people in other countries, in places like Ukraine.
And sometimes it means helping people in Canada after a big storm, fire, or flood.
[15 second pause for transition]
We wear special uniforms in the military, just like I'm wearing right now.
And did you know that there are a lot of different jobs in the military?
That's right.
[15 second pause for transition]
I worked for 17 years as a Canadian Armed Forces firefighter.
Canadian Armed Forces firefighters help put out fires on military bases, which is where some people in the military live.
We also help prevent fires.
[15 second pause for transition]
I love my job. It feels great to help people.
And I know that everyone in the Canadian Armed Forces works really hard to keep people safe.
[15 second pause for transition]
That's why Remembrance Day is so important.
Every November 11, Canadians say thank you to everyone in the military and to those who used to be in the military.
They're called Veterans.
[15 second pause for transition]
We wear a poppy close to our hearts to show that we remember the important work our military does in Canada and in other countries.
I'm wearing my poppy on my uniform.
[15 second pause for transition]
We also learn about all the brave things our Canadian Armed Forces have done to help people.
Remembrance Day is a very special day for those of us in the military.
And it makes us really proud to share it with people like you.
[15 second pause for transition]
Kids, you've all been such great listeners.
I'm so proud of you.
I'm happy that I got to talk to you about Canada's military and about why it's important to remember them.
Thanks for listening!
