(CWO McAdam) Exercise GUERRIER NORDIQUE recently took place at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier in Quebec. The training helped enhance Canadian Army Reservists’ ability to respond to missions in Canada’s North.

During the exercise we spoke with one of the participants to tell us more.

(Cpl Ratelle) Usually, exercise GUERRIER NORDIQUE is in the Far North, but because of current circumstances with COVID, we stayed at Valcartier. But usually it serves to test our rapid deployment capabilities with the Army in the Far North.

These days, I would say that this week, the activity, the way it is organized, there are these training sites. So you have several activities, and the platoons rotate throughout the week to really learn the winter drills, practice everything they learn, ultimately. And at the same time, we are now there to support them in case any physical or medical problems arise. That is really more our job.

(CWO McAdam) A reminder that March 21st commemorates the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. A day to honour the integral role of visible minorities in our Defence Team.

This year’s theme is “Steps Toward Inclusion: Defining the Journey”. Defence Team members are invited to share how we can be more inclusive and discuss the impact of racism and discrimination on people within traditional systems.

Visit the Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence social media accounts to learn more and take part in the conversation.
