DT News interview: Canada Army Run Virtual Race Director, Major Lesley Quinlan

Video / June 23, 2021

(SL) The Canada Army Run Virtual, which will take place from September 10th to 19th, recently revealed this years’ shirt design which will be sent to those who register by July 11th. Race Director, Major Lesley Quinlan, joins us again today to talk about the new design and a few other reminders for those who’d like to take part in this years’ event. Good to see you again, Maj Quinlan. So, first, can you tell us the story behind this years’ shirt design and any significance of the elements included?

(LQ) Of course. As usual, the shirts are made from a technical fabric, ideal for running, rolling, walking or any other physical activity. There are several military themed elements found in the new design, including CADPAT on both sides and the arms, particularly in the long sleeves version. The distance of the participants' choosing is found inside a white maple leaf on the left shoulder and the logo for Support Our Troops is on the right side with the Canada Army Run main logo on the chest of course. Participants can choose this year from a long sleeves or short sleeves design. And for those who either have too many or don't want a shirt at all, we have a hat on offer as well.

(SL) Can you provide more information on race kits for those who register by or before July 11th?

(LQ) No problem. The race kits ensure that even though the event is virtual, participants can still have the full Canada Army Run experience. In the kit, participants will find their exclusive Canada Army Run merchandise they chose at registration. They'll also receive a race coin, a congratulatory letter from the commander of the Canadian Army as well as a hydration product sample. We invite everyone to register by July 11th in order to receive their virtual kit in time for the event. Kits will still be sent to everyone who registers even after July 11th, but they may not arrive in time for the event. So, don't wait to register. By registering now, participants also get access to exclusive monthly training runs, a distance challenge of more than 190 kilometres and the ability to submit a nomination for Remembrance Row.

(SL) And before we go, can you remind folks one last time who to register and what causes they'll be supporting by doing so?

(LQ) Of course. You can register anytime by visiting our website at armyrun.ca. By participating in Canada Army Run, you're supporting not only our soldiers in the army, but Support Our Troups and Soldier On. Support Our Troops is the official charitable cause of the Canadian Armed Forces. It was created to help meet the special needs of individuals with military service. Soldier On is helping ill and injured serving and ex-military personnel with permanent or chronic disability. If they wish, participants are encouraged to create their own fundraising pages to show their support for these important causes. We also invite participants to wear their Canada Army Run shirt or hat before, during and after the event. The completion window may only be from the 10th to the 19th of September, but your support is important all year around. We can't wait to see you wearing the new 2021 gear and please don't forget to show your support on social media.

(SL) Thanks again for joining us today, Major.

(LQ) Thank you very much for having me.
