I think we can all agree… 2020 has been a year full of challenges – one after another and sometimes at the same time…
Across the globe…
Here at home…
And for our members of the Defence Team especially.

But throughout the difficulties and unpredictability of the past 12 months, each and every one of you remained unwavering in your commitment to serve Canada.

Here at home, you worked alongside healthcare workers in long-term care facilities, taking care of Canada’s most vulnerable.

In Northern and Indigenous communities across the country, you did critical work to keep people safe.

You worked to implement policies and innovative practices to improve the safety of our employees, and to affect change in our workplaces.

And you’re playing an important role in Canada’s vaccine distribution strategy.

Around the world, you worked with our international partners promoting peace and stability.

Leading training exercises in Europe and the Middle East as part of Operations UNIFIER, REASSURANCE, and IMPACT.

Contributing to global peace and security as part of Operation NEON and PROJECTION.

And delivering humanitarian and medical supplies to countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to help in the fight against COVID-19.

The past year has been a testament to your adaptability and fortitude.

As we enter 2021, your great work will continue.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

And that’s thanks, in large part, to the way you keep pushing to keep Canadians safe…
To protect and defend this country and our values…
And to make sure Canada is ready for any challenges that come our way.

I look forward to your continued success in 2021.

On behalf of all Canadians, thank you for your service and dedication.

And happy New Year to you and your families!
