Today on Military Family Appreciation Day, we celebrate the strength beside the uniform.

The spouses, children, parents, siblings, and other loved ones who give so much to our Canadian Armed Forces members every single day.

You are the ones cheering on their every triumph and achievement...

You are the support they need as they deploy to parts unknown to defend Canada and our allies...

And you are the phone call they make and the shoulder they lean on when they’re struggling and need someone to talk to.

We know the challenges and demands of a military career are borne not by the member alone, but by the entire family.

What we ask of you is not easy. Relocations and deployments can be very stressful for a family.

They can mean leaving friends and family behind…

Finding a new job and a new school for the kids…

Or getting a new driver’s licence, which is just one more unwelcome hurdle during a big move.

Whatever challenges you face, I want you to know you have our full support.

The Military Spousal Employment Initiative, Seamless Canada, the Military Family Doctor Network and the Family Information Line, are just a few of the resources we’ve implemented to help lessen the burden our military families face.

The success of our military depends on the well-being of their families back home.

You are their foundation. Their rock. Their beacon.

Your love and support inspires them to achieve, and steadies them to face any challenge that comes their way.

So, on behalf of the Government of Canada, allow me to extend my gratitude to all of our military families.

Thank you for your flexibility, sacrifice, and resilience in the face of change and hardship.

Thank you for holding down the fort.

And thank you for your steadfast support of our members as they work to keep our country safe.
