The Canadian Armed Forces is central to Canada’s security and sovereignty.
The work of the incredible men and women who wear the uniform at home and abroad is essential to Canada.
It’s time to thank them for their service and dedication to our country. And the government is doing that by giving Canadian Armed Forces members a pay raise.
This will benefit the Regular Force, the Reserve Force, the Canadian Rangers, and the Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service, and by extension their families.
This is long overdue. The last pay increase this substantial was in 1998.
The world has changed a lot since then, and CAF members, without hesitation have continuously stepped up to new defence challenges – it is time to compensate them for that work.
We are living in a time of growing complexity.
The world is evolving, and new threats are increasing – Canada must be ready.
That means we need a modern military that’s agile, adaptable and properly resourced.
We need to retain our seasoned professionals already in uniform — and with a 20 per cent pay raise to new recruits, we will attract new talent to our Armed Forces.
This compensation package is not just about today.
It’s about the CAF we’ll need tomorrow, growing the size of our Forces while supporting current members as they defend against emerging threats.
As the challenges we face grow more complex, we will need our military members more than ever to defend Canadians and assert our sovereignty.
We ask a lot of our military members and their families.
We ask them to be apart for extended periods of time.
We ask them to carry out dangerous missions.
We ask them to put the safety of others before their own—in defence of peace, freedom, and democracy.
That is a lot to ask.
And no matter the task, they carry out their duties with the utmost skill, dedication, and professionalism.
When it comes to the Canadian Armed Forces, they are simply second to none.
Canadians are deeply grateful for your service.
Thank you.
