Minister of National Defence video on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2019

Transcript - Minister of Natinal Defence Video - IDERD 2019

March 21st marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

It is a reminder that each of us has the right to be treated fairly, respectfully, and with dignity, in a workplace free of discrimination.

To uphold that right, we must stand up whenever we see an act of racism or bigotry no matter how small it may seem.

Racial discrimination not only affects our ability to perform at our best, it also goes against the Canadian values we hold so dear.

This is why the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces are actively working to ensure that our policies are free of biases and racial discrimination. We need a Defence Team that represents the population of Canada.

I am proud of the efforts we have made in championing the differences among us. We are invested in building a workforce that reflects Canadian ideals of acceptance, equality and respect. We must continue to build on what we have accomplished, and move forward towards greater inclusiveness and diversity.

Working together, we can eliminate racial discrimination across Canada, but all of us must do our part.
