July 3: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

July 3, 2020 – Defence Stories

Friday Update: We have lots of CAF members responsible for the wellbeing of civilians and vice versa particularly on Bases and Wings. That’s just one reason why it’s so critical to have a One #DefenceTeam overarching approach to business resumption.

Given our military and civilian integration in many work locations, it was great to have such a productive virtual town hall with regional leaders this past Monday. Appreciate the engagement and the feedback.

For those with questions about “699 leave” during the summer: we received guidance from the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer. The current approach remains in place, with a further update to come before the 2020-2021 school year.

Thanks again to Richard Sharpe of @FBEC_CEFN for his leadership. Much work to be done, but together with our DAG colleagues and #DefenceTeam members, we will make sure DND is a safe, equal and respectful workplace for all.

We announced the name of our new Assistant Deputy Minister (Public Affairs) this week. Looking forward to welcoming the principled, fearless and wickedly funny Laurie-Anne Kempton to the Defence Team, effective 27 July 2020.

A special #BZ to Joe de Mora, whose steady, empathetic and thoughtful leadership as Acting ADM (PA) has brought the Public Affairs team through a truly difficult past half year. Thank you so much, Joe.

The next few months of (hopefully) nice weather will provide plenty of temptation to relax and try to have a “normal” summer. Let’s make sure “normal” includes the being very aware of the #COVID19 environment.

You can still enjoy our beautiful country while respecting physical distancing—or wearing a mask when you can’t. Relax. Have fun. Be safe. And #washyourhands.
