Friday Update: #DefenceTeam members have a lot on the go—with work, in our personal lives, and just keeping up with what’s happening in the world.
Lots going on, and we still need to navigate the COVID-19 environment. With more Canadians out and about, we need to be more —not less—careful. A layered risk mitigation approach is best.
Put another way, we can’t put all our faith in a single preventative measure. We need hand washing AND cleaning AND masks AND physical distancing AND acceptance that our actions impact others as much as ourselves.
With September coming soon and Provinces announcing back-to-school plans, parents and guardians have a lot to consider. Please keep your manager in the loop about your circumstances, your plans, and the kind of flexibility you need.
I’m still horrified about what I heard at Monday’s DMC on anti-Black racism and a tweet isn’t sufficient to explain why. However, we did put out this statement, which I recommend you read.
Big deliverable this week with the #RCN officially taking possession of the #HMCSHarryDeWolf. That’s the work of thousands of person-hours from across the Defence Team and Irving Shipyards. A huge achievement. #BZ to all involved.
We welcomed our ADM (PA), Laurie-Ann Kempton to the Defence Team this week. She’s already working hard to get to know her team, grip issues, and—I trust—learn the entire CAF/DND Manual of Abbreviations by heart.
This week, the Defence Team and Canadians from across the country delivered one of the most heartfelt homecomings a ship has received in living memory. #HMCSFredericton, your grateful nations is so happy you are home.
If you have a long weekend ahead, try to relax, but be safe. (Those things *can* occur in tandem.) If you’re working—in Canada or overseas and away from those who love you—you have our thanks. Stay safe, and #washyourhands.
