Managers: Approving Leave for Casual Employees
September 8, 2020 – Defence Stories
Casual employees are not entitled to leave with pay. The only exception is bereavement leave for a family member as defined in the relevant collective agreement. Part 4 of the Appendix of Treasury’s Board’s Directive on Terms and Conditions of Employment outlines the rules on leave for casual employees.
However, casual employees are entitled to leave without pay, 5 days or less (LWOP < 5 days). LWOP < 5 days is to be submitted and approved through the following systems:
- Civilian managers: through Phoenix
- Military managers: submit a signed GC178 form from the Defence Forms Catalogue through the Human Resource Services and Support (HRSS)
Make sure you review the request carefully before approving it.
For more information or to learn more about requesting leave, contact HR Connect RH (1-833-RHR-MDND) or read the Civilian Leave Guide for Managers (DOC, 227 KB).
