“Serve up Fire Safety in the Kitchen” – Fire Prevention Week, 4-10 October 2020.
From 4-10 October, Fire Departments across Canada advertised this year’s Fire Prevention Week, “Serve up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.” Although many in-person events were cancelled due to COVID-19, municipal and city Fire Departments still promoted awareness through activities like community fire drills, fire truck and equipment displays, and online videos showing the dangers of fires in the kitchen. Fall Fire Safety Tips
Halloween
Remembering simple fire safety precautions, like keeping decorations far away from open flames and using battery-operated candles or glow-sticks in jack-o-lanterns, can help ensure your Halloween remains festive and fun.
Battery check
In most of Canada this fall, Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. As you change your clocks, take a few minutes to test and change the batteries in your smoke/carbon monoxide alarms. We suggest you have a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm on each floor of your home, one in each bedroom, plus one in the basement near the stairway. Combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms should be at least 6 meters from smoke and combustion particle-producing features such as fireplaces, stoves, and furnaces.
The Canadian Forces Fire Marshal’s office wishes everyone a fire safe fall.
