November 20: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

November 25, 2020 – Defence Stories

Today, Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honour those lost to anti-Transgender violence. As we mark this day, we can also reflect on how to make our #DefenceTeam family a safer, more inclusive space for our Transgender colleagues.

Next week begins #16DaysofActivism on gender-based violence. With more people confined to their homes, COVID has exacerbated occurrences of violence against women, children and other vulnerable persons. We need to listen, learn and act.

Critical business continuity looks different for many of us across the Defence Team. A reminder that one size won’t and can’t fit all in DND’s diverse operating environments. We know you have questions. Please be patient and talk to your manager.

A note for those working from home. We’ve extended the period of offer of reimbursement up to $300 for remote supplies and equipment. It will apply to eligible items purchased up until the end of the fiscal year. More info to come.

Last week, I wrote about kindness, and this past week I have been the recipient of it. Truly, it makes such a difference.

Encouraging #COVID-19 vaccine news makes it possible to start imagining the other side of this pandemic. Our ur #DefenceTeam will be ready to support Canada’s whole of government effort for vaccine distribution.

In the meantime, COVID is with us *now*. We need to keep being safe and follow public health advice like mask-wearing and limiting contact. Let’s keep being diligent and making good day-to-day choices. Thank you! And #washyourhands
