December 21: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

December 21, 2020 – Defence Stories

Friday update: Many thanks to those who’ve contributed to local charitable causes this season like Smiles for Seniors, Helping Hands, Wounded Warriors Canada and others through the NDWCC. Your efforts make this time a little better for the vulnerable in our communities.

One more huge thank-you to the delightful and talented Josianne Henao Alecendra, whose beautiful artwork won the DM/CDS Holiday Card contest. Her inner sunshine made us all smile: DT News: DM/CDS holiday card contest winner!

A lot of important work underway make our Defence Team a safer and more welcoming space for all team members. Last week’s announcement about the Minister’s advisory panel is another important step: Minister of National Defence announce Advisory Panel on Systemic Racism, Discrimination with a focus on anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism, LGBTQ2 Prejudice, Gender Bias and White Supremacy.

Looking ahead to January, new federal regulations on Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention will come into force 1 Jan. Changes are outlined here: New Regulations on Prevention of Harassment and Violence in the Workplace for Defence Team Public Service Employees.

But first, a break. Whatever your holiday plans, the kindest thing you can do is keep yourself and others safe by limiting contact, wearing masks, and following regional health guidelines. Vigilance is most meaningful gift you can give right now.
