January 29: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

February 2, 2021 – Defence Stories

Friday Update: Still reflecting on yesterday’s #BellLetsTalk discussion. Some of many takeaways: Our #MentalHealth needs attention 365 days a year. And the different origins of mental illness are not indicators of how critical the illness is.

It’s also clear many of us aren’t sure how best to support those in crisis when they come forward. We need to better prepare leaders and build systems so we can help people when and how they need it.

Shoutout to those who worked SO hard to put our #DefenceTeam #BellLetsTalk activities together. I’m looking at you, ADM (PA)’s DGMEC, Translators, and PLS-PA; ADM (HR-CIV)’s Total Health Management team, and @CFHSvcs.

Another shoutout to our DG HR Ops team for organizing DND’s Virtual Career Fair yesterday. We had almost 6,000 participants, 15 booths, and 200+ job opportunities within the CAF and 15 L1s. Next step: CV reviews. Great work.

Ottawa-area schools open to in-class learning on Monday. This is both a huge relief and a renewed source of anxiety for many Defence Team parents. Please keep talking to your supervisor about your situation, and how we can support.

New COVID variants are more easily transmissible. That means when we #WearAMask, we need to be extra sure we’re wearing it properly. Please keep being vigilant, #KeepYourDistance and #WashYourHands
