Zoom Information Session MA/PhD in War Studies, RMC, Kingston, March 4, 2021

On Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 1900 hrs Eastern Standard Time (EST) the War Studies Programme of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) will offer a Zoom information session on War Studies graduate degrees. This information session will be focussed upon members of the Canadian Armed Forces, their spouses and partners, Government of Canada employees, as well as United States military personnel who are eligible to apply for a spring application deadline of May 1st.

RMC offers a Master of Arts in War Studies and a Doctor of Philosophy in War Studies. These War Studies degrees can be completed full-time or, part-time. To facilitate completion of courses requirements all War studies courses can be taken by distance.

The Master of Arts in War Studies usually requires a minimum two years for completion and can take no longer than five years. This degree programme has three options available for completion.

  1. Course Pattern - ten-graduate course credits
  2. Thesis Pattern - six graduate course credits plus a thesis (four credits)
  3. Directed Research Project (DRP) Pattern - eight graduate course credits plus a DRP (two credits)

As a multi-disciplinary degree, the range of courses for the Master of Arts in War Studies encompass a full spectrum of Social Sciences and Humanities subjects.

The Doctor of Philosophy in War Studies in War Studies normally requires at least five years to complete and is allowed a maximum of seven years. Students must register as full-time students for a period of two years to undertake course work and complete comprehensive examinations, followed by three years to research, write, and defend the dissertation. The three primary fields of study are:

  1. International Relations
  2. Defence Policy and
  3. Military History
