April 23: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

April 26, 2021 – Defence Stories

Friday Update: Hang in there. Momentum is building as vaccine delivery capacity ramps up and more folks are getting their COVID shots. I strongly encourage you to take yours as soon as one is offered to you.

#DefenceTeam managers: when your staff members’ opportunity for a vaccine arrives, they’re not required to take formal leave for their vaccine shot. Treat it as a standard medical appointment.

Got my #COVID shot through the province this week. I felt like a bag of hammers for 30 hours and then felt great. Managers, please be flexible if your folks need time post-vaccine.

DND has different operational requirements than most other departments, so even as we scale way down to critical operations, some people are still needed on site. Please stay vigilant.

Some provinces have kids back to online school and that’s once again placing added pressure on many Defence Team parents. If it all becomes too much to juggle everything, please talk to your supervisor.

We all have different pressures and are feeling the stress of COVID in different ways. Whatever you’re feeling is real for you and that’s what matters. If you need time off, please ask for it. You are important, and so is your health.
