Minister of National Defence message for National Public Service Week 2021

June 14, 2021 - Defence Stories

Every year during the third week in June, the Government of Canada celebrates National Public Service Week (NPSW) to recognize the contributions made by federal public service employees across Canada.

The Department of National Defence employs over 24,000 federal public servants across Canada, and I am continuously impressed by the Defence Team’s achievements as a committed, professional and hard-working workforce.

Each of you play a unique role in serving Canadians while simultaneously working alongside your Canadian Armed Forces teammates.  Our Defence Team is full of bright, dedicated, resilient members who have—from the earliest years—understood what it means to demonstrate agility and excellence in all areas throughout the organization.

The work you’re all doing—in the midst of a global pandemic—is invaluable. It has shaped Canada for the better and you continuously showcase the importance of putting service and support of Canadians at the forefront, regardless of what challenges we face.

To celebrate NPSW this year, I encourage you to stay connected and virtually engaged with one another, and to foster the team spirit and collaboration that defines the Defence Team.

You can join the conversation on social media with #NPSW2021 and #ServCDNs.

We can all take great pride in upholding Canada’s fundamental values and principles. Through everything we do here at Defence, we are “Proudly Serving Canadians.”

I hope you take some time this week to recognize your accomplishments and celebrate the incredible contributions you make to our country.

Thank you.

The Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan
Minister of National Defence
