CAF Ethos - We need to hear from you!
November 2, 2021 - Defence Stories
A new publication, CAF Ethos: Trusted to Serve, will soon be released applicable to all ranks of the CAF. This publication is part of the renewal of the Profession of Arms series of publications by the Canadian Defence Academy to generate ongoing group discussions. These discussions, from the section right through to command levels, will focus on what it means to be a member of the CAF, how we best serve Canada, our society, and ourselves.
To assist in generating those discussions, we are looking for your stories that will engage persons from all ranks and occupations. Stories should touch a part of the entire spectrum of our CAF Ethos, thereby affording us the opportunity to learn from best practices and avoid repeating past mistakes.
Contributors should relate their personal stories to any of our principles (P), values (V) and expectations (E) of:
- Respect the dignity of all persons (P)
- Serve Canada before self (P)
- Obey and support lawful authority (P)
- Loyalty (V)
- Integrity (V)
- Courage (V)
- Excellence (V)
- Inclusion (V)
- Accountability (V)
- Duty (E)
- Unlimited liability (E)
- Fighting Spirit (E)
- Leadership (E)
- Discipline (E)
- Teamwork (E)
- Readiness (E)
- Stewardship (E)
We are also seeking stories that demonstrate how either character, competence or both affect all of the above.
Stories submitted will become part of a continuously refreshed bank of learning content to be used in the socialization of our Ethos. The intent is to keep all storylines anonymous in order to respect the privacy of all individuals involved. Submit your un-vetted contribution direct to PCLD-CPDL@forces.gc.ca.
