The Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA) is pleased to share that Leanne Pelley, General Manager for Housing Operations has been awarded the 2022 Association of Professional Executives of the public service of Canada (APEX) Award of Excellence for her Community Contributions.

Leanne’s contributions to communities is being recognized for her involvement in a variety of non-profit organizations since 2014. In 2014, she became involved in the Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OCAPDD) and since 2016 she has been a Director on its Board of Directors, she has been an active participant in its Silver Spring Farm’s seasonal Garlic Planting/Sales program.

She continued to involve herself with different organizations, notably in 2019, with the Royal Canadian Legion’s “Operation: Leave the Streets Behind”. That same year, Leanne also began volunteering with Earthub’s Ottawa Chapter, as part of a network of people committed to collecting and reusing items otherwise destined for landfills.

The last five years also saw Leanne help: the OCAPDD with its Holiday gift wrap fundraiser (2016/17); St. Vincent Hospital by helping individuals with feeding/snacks, bingo events, socialization and friendship activities (2017/18); In The Shadows Ottawa, preparing 100 “Happy Bags” for homeless individuals with donated items to be distributed throughout the holidays (2020); and the West Ottawa Soccer Club, the Kanata Minor Hockey Association, and Kanata Minor League Baseball in various roles.

Leanne is that special kind of person that just cannot help but be involved in those communities she is a part of. The details of her volunteer activities listed above speak volumes about her deep seated care for those communities, particularly demonstrated by her clearly passionate support to persons with developmental disabilities. Leanne also shows much care and compassion for Canada’s larger Defence community, so much so that she was honoured by being selected as one of the 2021 recipients of the Liz Hoffman Memorial Commendation.

DND would like to recognize Leanne on this prestigious Award of Excellence for her Community Contributions.

“The real “WOW factor” that places Leanne on another level is that while she manages the impressive workload her job entails, she is still able to bring her volunteerism efforts forth and blend them onto her day-today activities. It is a normal thing to see a massive collection of milk bags to outside of her office, bags ultimately destined to find their way in support of homeless Veterans through Leanne’s involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion’s Operation: Leave The Streets Behind program.”
